Experts for Global Economics Group in Mexico analyzed the likely effects of the proposed merger between Liverpool and Walmex’s Suburbia stores under a variety of product and geographic dimensions, with all of these supporting a wide degree of substitution possibilities for consumers. The analysis introduced novel measures of local market competition with geostatistical analysis and identifying consumption patterns of individuals using various instruments from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). The Plenum of the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) recently notified the parties that the transaction had been approved without conditions.
