Professor Joanna Shepherd is the Thomas Simmons Professor of Law at Emory University School of Law, where she has served as Vice Dean. She brings together expertise in Economics, Statistics, and Law, having earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Emory University with concentrations in Econometrics/Statistics, Law & Economics, and Industrial Organization. Professor Shepherd teaches courses including Torts, Law and Economics, Analytical Methods for Lawyers, and Judicial Behavior.
Her research focuses on empirical analyses of legal changes and institutions, with publications in top law reviews and journals. She has authored books on judicial elections, economic analysis of law, and industrial organization.
