Global Economics Group Expands Treasury and Capital Management Team
Global Economics Group is pleased to announce that Peter Levitt, former Treasurer of CIBC, and Andrew Branion, former Treasurer of Scotiabank, have joined Global Economics Group’s Financial Services Consulting practice. Both Peter and Andrew bring decades of banking experience with respect to Treasury operations, interest rate and liquidity risk management, capital management and resolution and recovery planning. More about Andrew:
Andrew is a seasoned banking executive with over thirty years’ experience and a somewhat unique perspective given senior roles across Treasury, Risk Management, Capital Markets and Central Banking. Andrew’s most recent banking role was as Global Treasurer of Scotiabank, Canada’s most international bank. In that capacity, he had global responsibility for all Treasury and investment functions across North America, the Pacific Alliance countries, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. He was directly responsible for managing the Bank’s funding, liquidity, investment portfolios (bonds, public and private equity), structural balance sheet risks associated with $1,000B balance sheet, foreign exchange risks and the pension plan.
Prior to that, Andrew was Executive Vice President and Chief Market Risk Officer. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, he was responsible for global market risk, liquidity and funding risk, operational risk, enterprise risk (including Bank’s Recovery and Resolution plans), and model risk. He was a voting member of the Senior Credit, Market Risk Management Policy and Risk Policy Committees, and a regular participant at the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors. Andrew began his career at the Bank of Canada in 1988 and joined Bank of Nova Scotia in 1997. He spent the next 15 years on the trading floor working with buy and sell side clients on structured derivative solutions. He has a BSc (Medical Microbiology) from the University of Alberta and an MBA (Finance) from the University of Toronto.

Peter led CIBC’s (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce) Treasury Division from August 2012 to October 2022; oversight of the Tax Division was added to his accountabilities in March 2020. In this role, Peter was responsible for all aspects of CIBC’s treasury functions, including asset liability management, structural balance sheet risk hedging, liquidity risk management, capital management and optimization, funding, cash management, treasury analytics, funds transfer pricing, and pension and treasury investment management. He was also responsible for external Treasury-related stakeholder management, including investor relations, regulatory relations, central bank relationship management and worked actively to promote financial stability through sound legislation, regulation and public policy.
Peter also served as Executive Vice-President and Treasurer at Manulife Financial (John Hancock in the US) from 2007 to 2012. Prior to this, he led capital finance in TD Bank Treasury, was head of treasury and Global Controller for TD Securities, and Chief Financial Officer of the wealth management group at Canada Trust up to and including integration with TD in 2000.
