Edgar Ancona

Edgar Ancona brings a 40+ year career in finance, treasury and risk management at large financial institutions in the US, Asia, Latin America and UK to Global Economics Group’s Financial Services practice.

From 2003-2012, Edgar had various executive roles at HSBC including CFO Asia Pacific (2006-2009) and CFO North America (2009-2012). His focus was on capital management, improving control and reducing costs.  He served as a key manager of regulatory relationships. As Treasurer of Household International (1994-2003), Edgar created a diversified funding program that successfully withstood a significant liquidity crisis in the CP market in 2002. At Citibank (1977-1993), Edgar worked principally in treasury and capital markets.

Edgar served as a director and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of HSBC Latin America (2012-2022) and for HSBC Mexico (2015-2022). Improving control of both financial and non-financial risks was a priority. In Mexico, he helped guide significant improvement in Financial Crime Management including major changes in culture and management. Currently, Edgar is an advisor and director of CreditNinja, an online lender and provider of credit analytics, and Eligo Energy, a retail energy provider.

Edgar has a BS in Management Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Edgar is certified by the National Association of Corporate Directors.
